Fillers

Haufler Composites stocks fillers such as milled carbon fibre, chopped carbon fibre, microballoons and cotton flocks.

Adding fillers turns resins into adhesive or filling compounds. Resin shrinkage is reduced, while strength and stiffness increase compared with the neat resin.

Milled carbon fibre is suitable as a filler for thermosets and thermoplastics. It is used both to increase strength and stiffness and to improve electrical and thermal conductivity. The main fibre length is 0.1 - 0.35 mm. Chopped carbon fibre is available in lengths from 1 to 6 mm.

Microballoons are very fine and lightweight white hollow glass spheres. They are characterised by their low density. Used as a filler in resins, they produce pastes that are easy to smooth and sand. The compressive strength of the lightweight filling compound is higher than that of the resin.

Cotton flocks are used as a fibrous filler together with epoxy resin for structural bonding. The result is a light, thixotropic filling compound that is also used as a coupling layer in mould making.
